After what seems like a lifetime of planning applications, wildlife surveys, historic records and endless form filling, for this, that and the other, we can finally start work on converting the barn.

6 May and the omens are good: it happens to be our wedding anniversary (happy anniversary Rach), it’s a new moon – the moon features heavily in our beer name – and it isn’t raining.

The builders arrive en-masse and tooled up. Their first task is to start work on building the access road to the barn, so they arrive in some very big and very noisy diggers. We leave the boys with their toys to it and look on in excitement – The Norfolk Brewhouse is born…
